My work expresses a sense of time. My inspiration is derived from a strong background in history and antiques. During my early years, I worked with my uncle in his antique business often repairing various antiques and reproducing others. By the mid to late 1980's I was repairing antiques on a full time basis, which were being used to decorate restaurants such as Cracker Barrel and TGI Fridays. My favorite period of furniture is the Arts and Crafts movement, including designers or periods such as Green and Green, Wharton Esherick, Sam Maloof, Queen Anne and Shaker are also favorites. Other influences include Asian and Egyptian designs.
For the most part I am self taught, however, over the years I have taken a few workshops to learn new techniques. My first two shops were located in Brewerton, NY and primarily were for working on antiques during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1991, I moved to my current Central Square studio, which is 1100 square feet, continuing to build period furniture and one-of-a-kind furniture.
Simplicity and fine details are essential to all my designs. The woods used are some of the finest softwoods, hardwoods and veneers available. They are hand selected for each piece of furniture or cabinetry. Finishing techniques range from French polishing to hand rubbed oil finishes. Standard joinery techniques include wedged mortise and tenon and dovetails for superior strength. Every piece of furniture or cabinetry is inspected to ensure the highest quality. When reproducing period furniture, my attention to authenticity is extremely important to ensure that you receive an almost original piece.
In order to better serve all of my customers, I strive to provide quality pieces at affordable prices. All items are proudly made in Upstate New York.
Today, besides my continued work in furniture making, I am interested in conserving natural resources and using green technology. I have owned and operated a vehicle that is powered by biodiesel (B-100), in which I use to make the fuel for the vehicle. Other interests include solar and wind power.
